Lawrence First Church Staff
David Dunn | Worship Leader
David’s family moved to Lawrence in 1989 when his dad became the pastor to the amazing people at Lawrence First Church of the Nazarene.
About ten years later, David learned to play a handful of notes on the bass guitar and became a part of the worship team. He began developing a passion for worship. “For me,” David says, “worship is the external representation of an internal reverence for an awesome and loving God. I feel it is important for each person to experience this in a personal and comfortable way. Attempting to create an atmosphere where this can happen is what drives me.”
David loves working with the team to provide the best possible worship experience for everyone who walks through the doors!
David is now married to his wife Jennifer as of November 2020! When he’s not at the church preparing for Sunday or serving on the church board, you might find him listening to music from his vinyl collection, playing golf with Jen, watching movies, attending concerts, drinking coffee or trying to find the best queso in Lawrence!
Robby Giffin | Lead Pastor
Robby has enjoyed the privilege of calling Lawrence First Church of the Nazarene home since June of 2003. More than 17 years, 4 kids, and 3,914 Kwik Shop coffees later, God’s calling is still as fresh and real as it was then. After serving in an Associate Pastor role with teens and kids for over 14 years, he began serving as Lead Pastor in February 2018. Amy and Robby have been married for 21 years and have been blessed with 4 incredible kids. Samuel is 16, Lucy is 14, Eli is 12, and their youngest, Thomas, went to be with Jesus in 2012 when he was almost 2. Through that difficult journey the family was reminded that God might just have called them here not only because they had something to offer the church, but because this church had much to offer them as well. They continue to be blessed by the love and support of Lawrence First and are honored to be a part of a church family who is seeking God’s kingdom together.
Alissa Patterson | Children’s Pastor
Alissa joined the LFC staff as the Children’s Pastor in 2019. She grew up in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. She loves coffee, traveling, worship music, baking, shopping, cats and being with her family and friends. She is a foster mama and enjoys doing life with all of the kiddos who come into her home. She is blessed to be apart of the Lawrence First Church Family!
Kyle Tyler | Family Pastor
Kyle joined the LFC staff in 2018, and has been a pastor to families for over 13 years. He loves to create. Music, art, stories, graphics, recipes, sermons, media – he’s always looking for his next creative outlet. He’s been married to Menda for 13 years, and they have two daughters, Lucy (10) and Penny (6). Kyle likes playing and watching sports, playing and listening to music, reading books, listening to podcasts, and deep diving into practical theology. He really loves Jesus, his family, and Chipotle burritos.
Brie Winder | Office Administrator
Brie Winder has been a part of Lawrence First Church for most of her life. As a child her family moved often but she always found her way back to LFC. Her own words: “There is just a strong sense of belonging and the feeling of home.”
Brie has been married to her husband Kurt for 11 years and they have two sons, Isaac and Greyson. She enjoys being the office manager at LFC and puts her heart and soul into every project. She knows this is the place God has called her to be. Brie loves coming into work every day and being a part of the great things God is doing at LFC.
Jeanie Balzer | Ministry Intern
Jeanie joined Lawrence First Church as a ministry intern in 2019. She is a student at MidAmerica Nazarene University, double-majoring in Children’s and Family Ministry and Youth and Family Ministry, and also minoring in Christian Education. Jeanie has answered God’s call on her life to minister to families in the church and plans to pursue pastoral ministry after graduating in 2021. She is excited to serve and grow alongside those at LFC while she finishes her studies at MidAmerica. When she is not working on homework or hanging out at the church, Jeanie loves to drink coffee, play board games, eat ice cream, read books, and spend time with friends.
